Mark S. Mayfield has been representing juveniles since 1995. He is recognized as an authority on California juvenile law. He has presented at 'Trading Secrets: An Insiders Perspective of How Sacramento Juvenile Justice Agencies Work' in Sacramento County. This training was for law enforcement professionals and focused on the inner workings of the Sacramento County juvenile court process. Mr. Mayfield has also assisted the California State Highway Patrol with training new officers at their headquarters in West Sacramento. Mr. Mayfield served as a panel member at the 2007 'Developing Effective Practices in Juvenile Delinquency Caseflow Management.' This seminar was attended by Juvenile Court Judges and attorneys from across California, and was hosted by the Administrative Office of the Courts. While in law school Mr. Mayfield was employed by the Sacramento County Public Defender, Juvenile Division. Shortly after graduating from McGeorge School of Law and passing the bar exam in 1996, he launched his private practice. Since then, he has represented hundreds of juvenile clients, ranging from relatively minor misdemeanor charges to serious felony allegations. He is a member of the Sacramento County Bar Association, the California State Bar, the California Public Defenders Association, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the Sacramento County Indigent Defense Panel. Mr. Mayfield also continually updates his research on gangs, youth culture, social networking Web sites, and modern music so that he can communicate with today's young people at their level. Prior to attending law school, Mark attended California State University, Long Beach, obtaining a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree during his tenure there. Mark was awarded membership in the prestigious Phi Kappa Phi honor society for his Master's degree work. After graduating from college and before attending law school, Mr. Mayfield taught at the high school and college levels in Long Beach, California and Sacramento, California.
